Meal and snack times are social occasions where staff sit with the children and encourage
good manners whilst taking the opportunity to encourage good eating habits,
and discuss food related topics eg: preferences, portion sizes, why food is good for you,
what they eat at home etc.
Meals and snacks are prepared in the nursery kitchen by the experienced cook and her assistant,
and the kitchen is inspected every year by the Council' Environmental Health Service.
We congratulate our kitchen staff that this year we were awarded a level 5 food hygiene rating - the highest grading you can get.
Menus are planned with the nursery manager to ensure that meals are nutritionally well-balanced
and that fresh seasonal ingredients are used.
As well as the main meal of the day alternate dietary requirements are always met
with particular attention paid to those children who have food allergies or intolerances.
Weekly menus are displayed throughout the nursery. Just here you can see a typical example.
Snacks are taken, indoors or outdoors, seated in their small groups.
Drinking water is freely available to the oldest children who help themselves whilst the babies and young children are offered drinks frequently throughout the day.
